Prof. Deborah G. Johnson is the Anne Shirley Carter Olsson Professor of Applied Ethics in the Department of Technology, Culture, and Communication, School of Engineering and Applied Science (UVA).  Prior to coming to UVA in 2001, Prof. Johnson taught at Georgia Tech and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

 

She is the author/editor of four books: Computer Ethics, now in its 3rd Edition (Prentice Hall, 2001); Computers, Ethics, and Social Values (co-edited with Helen Nissenbaum, Prentice Hall, 1995); Ethical Issues in Engineering (Prentice Hall, 1991); and Ethical Issues in the Use of Computers (co-edited with John Snapper, Wadsworth, 1985).

 

Prof. Johnson has served as president of the Society for Philosophy and Technology (SPT), as President of the International Society for Ethics and Information Technology (INSEIT) and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics (APPE).

 

She co-edits the journal: Ethics and Information Technology, and currently has a grant from the National Science Foundation to develop new directions in research on the ethics and technology.
